Introduction to Searching STNEasy Databases

Understanding the Citation Search

Science Citation Index is included in the General Science Category as SCISEARCH.  Many of the other databases available, such as CAplus, also provide links to other documents citing the article searched.  Finding how many times a particular article by a particular author has been cited is relatively easy and inexpensive.  Finding exactly which articles and who cited them or multiple article citations is more tedious and expensive.

Most citation searches begin with a search on an author. The SCISEARCH database combines all forms of the author's name into a standard format of last name and initials.

Your search will return a list of  article titles.  To learn how many times a particular article has been cited, click on the title or check the box next to all the title you wish to check.

Each displayed reference that has been cited will provide the option to view other documents citing that reference:

The results of the citation search show 25 total hits, but only 16 unique citations as CAplus was also searched.  Since SCISEARCH is not the only citation search available now, it may be appropriate to search CAplus or other databases in the General Science category.  STNEasy offers the option to view duplicates but does not at this time offer a remove duplicate operation.  Bear in mind that diplaying answers from CAPlus is less expensive than displaying answers from SCISEARCH.
