My name is Anne Catherine Stephens. I was born in Miles City, Montana in 1979.
I am the oldest of three girls. My parents and I moved to Kingman, Arizona when
I was about two years old. I grew up in Kigman and graduated from Kingman High
School in 1998. I decided to attend NAU in Flagstaff starting in the Fall of 1998.
What drew me to NAU was that my dad worked for IHD at that time. Soon after I
was accepted he decided to go back to working for the State of Arizona in Kingman
and I went to Flagstaff. I became interested in teaching because of my mom who
works at an elementary school. I became interested in disabilities because of
my dad who works for Vocational Rehabilitation for the State of Arizona. When
I was in my ESE380 class Dr. Peterson and Laura came in to tell us about the DREAMS
program. It sounded quite interesting and so I found out more information and
ended up applying. Now here I am. The only real experience I had working with
children who have disabilities before I came to Yuma was I had and little boy
with autism in my swimming lesson classes I had taught last summer. Now I am working
in a special education classroom in Yuma.
