Hello, My name is Leberta Henderson. I am a Native American Indian (Navajo) from Tuba City, Arizona. I am a single parent of three pretty little girls ages 13,11, and 6. They are my reasons for staying here in Tuba City and taking web courses. I love my children and I want to be here for them, they also need my support in their education and extra curricular activities. My second daughter was at one time with special education. She was labeled Learner Disabled. She was retested and they decided that she no longer needed their services, which I felt relieved that she was considered abled to get regular education. Her comprehension level is very low and has problem with mathematics. We work together on homework. Her teachers say that she is a very hard worker. My heart feels for her when she struggles with her assignments. I have a dual major, they are Elementary Education and Special Education. I have this web course ESE 424 and another, ESE 380. I know the prerequisite to this course was ESE 380. Currently, I am employed with Tuba City Boarding School. I have been a Substitute Teacher there for 4 years. I have worked with Special Education for 2 years. I have observed the process of Individual Education Plan and took part in some discussions of special education laws among colleagues. So, I am aware of what I am getting myself into. I like the challenge of working with the children, special and regular. Then I was pulled out of special education, due to the lack of a substitute teacher in the regular program. Also in the regular program, it has been very challenging, especially when I have to take over a classroom, months at a time, till they hire a certified teacher. Through it all, I have enjoyed both departments, Regular and Special Education. I am ready to learn more.
Leberta.
