Purpose: Look at artwork and in one case, talk to the actual artist. Reflect on your findings. The following questions are meant as prompts. You do not have to respond to each and every question. Possible Places: The Fine Arts Faculty Exhibit: Right here at our very own Old Main (the building between us and Gammage). The exhibit runs from today until October 3rd. They're open from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. M-F. They're having an opening night celebration this Friday, at 7 p.m. Flagstaff Open Studios, September 20th and 21st. I have 6 copies of programs sitting outside my office door. You can find programs at the Old Main Gallery (the entrance area), and at Gopher Sounds. This event also has an informative website. Old Main/Fine Arts: I poked around (the lights were out, but the doors were unlocked!) and I have to say, I think you'll enjoy the exhibit. Please make some time and stroll through the exhibit. Here are some questions for your reflection paper. Consider audience. Do you think the exhibit is what students would expect? When does a design, image, sculpture, expand one's horizons? When is it simply out of place? When is something interesting? When is it weird? When is it different? When is it what you'd expect? Flagstaff Open Studios:Find out when form and function are one in the same for the artist. From the artist's perspective, when is design with or without meaning? When does the design need the artist to explain what the meaning is? Can the artists name their audiences? If yes, how do they accomodate and what choices do they make to meet their audiences? Do they use technology in steps of the process? Paper Specifications: 2-3 pages/double-space Please submit your work on WebCT. |
