Michael F. Jarko Memorial Athletic Training Education Scholarship


To qualify for the Michael F. Jarko Memorial Athletic Training Education Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Letter of application -why you're deserving of this scholarship, career goals, future plans to contribute to the profession nationally or with the state organization; what a college education means to you personally.
  • GPA: Minimum of a 3.30 college GPA.
  • Status of junior or senior student at Northern Arizona University.
  • Two letters of recommendation, both from Certified Athletic Trainers.
  • Proof of membership in the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

Application forms are available in the Athletic Training Education Program office
(HP 121)or online (MS Word or PDF). Deadline date: February 1st.

David P. McElwain Health Professions Scholarship

The David P. McElwain Health Professions Scholarship is available to Juniors and Seniors (Sophomores and Juniors should apply) pursuing any major offered by NAU's College of Health Professions - Undergraduate or Graduate students.

To qualify for the David P. McElwain Health Professions Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Major in an academic discipline within the NAU College of Health Professions.
  • Enrolled as full-time (12 semester hours or more) student.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at time of selection.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Expected to pursue a career in the health care field following graduation.

Application forms are available in Dean's office (HP 118). Check with the Dean's Office for the Spring deadline date (usually March) .

Arnn Scholarship for Health Professions Students

Arnn Memorial Scholarships have been established in memory of Homer Arnn and his son, Major John O. Arnn. To qualify for the Arnn Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate student with financial need.
  • Accepted into Health Professions program (If HP does not require acceptance, completed 12 semester credit hours in HP major).
  • Full-time student.
  • Native American students will be given preference.

Application forms are available in Dean's office (HP 118). Check with the Dean's Office for the Spring deadline date (usually March).

Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions Scholarship for Excellence

The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) Scholarship for Excellence is available to candidates enrolled in a college that is an institutional member of the ASAHP (CHP is an institutional member).

To qualify for the ASAHP Scholarship for Excellence, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Candidates may be enrolled in Athletic Training, Dental Hygiene, Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, or Communication Sciences and Disorders and must have successfully completed at least one semester.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a career entry-level, degree-granting program; all degree levels are eligible (baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral).
  • Financial need is not a criterion for eligibility.
  • A composite of qualities will be used to determine winners; unique accomplishments are important considerations in selecting winners. Among the qualities that will be recognized are academic achievements, service to the institution and the community, leadership, extracurricular activities and evidence of strong communication skills.
  • A one-page (not to exceed 200 words) typewritten essay from the candidate that addressed why she/he selected the health profession for which she/he is enrolled and what unique contributions she/he intends to make to the community's health.

NAU Athletic Training Room Scholarships

Two endowed scholarships as well as athletic scholarships are available through the NAU Athletic Training Room. These scholarships are not provided for or at the discretion of the faculty of the NAU Athletic Training Education Program. Students must be assigned to the NAU Athletic Training Room in order to receive these scholarships. If you are interested in being assigned to the NAU Athletic Training Room please indicate your interest on your application or see the Program Director. Northern Arizona Orthopaedics Athletic Training Scholarship
  • Student must be enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program
  • Student must be performing their clinical rotation in the NAU intercollegiate athletic training room
  • Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Student should exhibit leadership qualities amongst their peers
  • Preference will be given to a graduate from a Flagstaff, Coconino County, or Arizona high school, in that order
Blue Cross / Blue Shield Sports Medicine Award
  • Student must be enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program
  • Student must be performing their clinical rotation in the NAU intercollegiate athletic training room
  • Student must possess leadership qualities
  • Student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

General Tuition Waiver Scholarships
  • Student must be performing clinical hours in the NAU intercollegiate athletic training room
  • Student must have a minimum of one semester of experience in the NAU intercollegiate athletic training room
  • Student must exhibit an exemplary work ethic
