Principles and Practices of Family Support, Self-Determination and Disability

Welcome to DIS 499/599. This course is designed for upper division undergraduate and graduate students, professionals from a variety of disciplines that provide service to the disability community, (e.g., teachers, service coordinators, therapists, medical professionals, counselors, etc.), individuals with disabilities, and family members. Students will study the philosophy of family support, cultural competence, assessing needs and determining supports, identifying and coordinating resources, skills for working together with families and evaluating family support systems.
