The lab is presently offering ~1500 analyses per year at a nominal fee ($20 per analysis, about one-tenth the standard rate). A primary goal of these analyses is to cross-check the results of amino acid geochronology with results of other geochronological methods, and samples whose ages are known on the basis of evidence from other techniques will be analyzed at no cost to the collaborating scientist. The facility will also work with collaborating researchers to design and conduct a variety of experiments aimed at improving the accuracy and applicability of the technique. In particular, the AAGL solicits material from other amino acid geochronologists to heat for long durations in its calibrated ovens. The AAGL presently maintains three calibrated ovens: one for short-duration, high-temperature experiments (120°C), one for longer-duration experiments at 110°C, and one for long-term heating (90°C).
