Biographical Sketch

DENNIS W. CATLIN, Ph.D.

Dr. Catlin served as a police detective, Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Training Supervisor for the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council. He was Executive Director of the Michigan Judicial Institute, an agency of the Michigan Supreme Court. He taught law enforcement, police supervision, and court administration courses at several community colleges in Michigan and at the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. Prior to coming to Northern Arizona University, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University. He received his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and his Ph.D. in Administration and Higher Education from Michigan State University.

Dr. Catlin has consulted on "rule of law" and judicial reform projects in Egypt, Botswana, Croatia, Bulgaria, the Philippines, Barbados, Slovakia and Armenia.. He currently serves as Senior Associate for the Judicial Education Reference, Information, and Technical Transfer Project (JERITT) housed at  Michigan State University.  The JERITT Project is the international clearinghouse for information on the education and training of judges and other judicial branch personnel.

His areas of interest are in justice system organization and administration, ethics and values in criminal justice, comparative justice systems, and law enforcement.
