Subject(s): Language Arts (English),

|
Topic or Unit of
Study: The Systems of the Human
Body
|
Grade/Level: 6
|
Objective: This activity will help engage
students in the study of human anatomy. They will become familiar
with all five systems and how they work together to keep us
alive.
|
Summary: Students will work in groups to
research a system of the human body. Collectively, they will create
a presentation using several technology tools.
|
 |
| IMPLEMENTATION |
 |
Learning
Context: This activity will be an intoduction to our
Science unit on The Human Body. After the activity is complete the
class will have knowledge of the different systems. From there we
will look at how the systems work togther and how we maintain a
healthy body.
|
Procedure: 1. The class will be split into
five groups according to the five Human Body Systems: Digestive,
Respiratory, Circulatory, Musculoskeletal, and Nervous. 2. Each
group will be allotted class time to compile web research on their
system of the body. 3. They will also need to work together
outside of class to complete their research and plan their
presentation. 4. Using their online research, they will create a
power point presentation. 5. They will use Microsoft Word to
create a bibliography of their cited material. 6. Their
presentation should include two other technology tools of their
choice (Slide Show, Movie Maker, Inspiration, Smart Board, etc.)
7. Each group will present their presentation to the
class. 8. They will turn in their bibliography and research
materials to the teacher. 9. Each group member will complete an
evaluation of their group members.
|
Differentiated
Instruction: To help create efficient groups the
teacher will choose which students will work together. The teacher
must make sure that each group has an eclectic mix of students. For
example, it would not be wise to create a group in which each
student has Attention Deficit Disorder. It might also help to assign
each group member a certain task. That way the accelerated students
aren't doing all the work.

Collaboration: Students will work
collaboratively.

Time
Allotment: 6 class periods. 45 Min. per
class.
