Bats
VITAL INFORMATION
Subject(s):
Science

Topic or Unit of Study:
Study of Bats

Grade/Level:
4

Objective:
The students will be able to create an outline about bats using Kidspiration.
The students will be able to create a power point from Kidspiration to present to the class.
The students will be able to create a power point with illustrations, text, and backgrounds.
the students will be able to present their power point to the class with every group member talking at least once during the presentation.

Summary:
I will present a power point with information about bats. Then the studnets will use the websites I gave them to create their own outline of information and then put it into a power point. From this they will get into groups and present the information to the class through power point.

IMPLEMENTATION
Learning Context:
The students will be learning how to use Kidsperation to create an outline along with using the power point to put the outline to use. I will introduce the unit by showing the studnets the power point I created. Then the studnets will do the research to create their outlines. Then once completed they will put the information into the powerpoint and present it to the class in groups. In the end we will use everyones power point and create a class power point with all the importaint information in it. Then I will present it to the class.

Procedure:
First the students will look up nformation and pictures on the Internet through the sites listed at the end of my power point.
Second the students will use the information they have got to create an outline using the information they have researched.
When working with the Kidsperation program in creating their out line they can use the bubble form or just use the outline, it does not matter how they put their information together. Which ever suits the students is what they can use.
Third in their groups they will transform their outline into a power point. Here they will ad pictures and use different formats for the slide. They will need to create a well put together power point presentation using pictures, animation, different sizes of text and faunts, etc.
Fourth the students will present the power point to the class.
Fifth as a class we will create a class power point using all the information in their power points, to make one common power point of all the information they have found and thought was useful.
Finally the teacher will present the class power point to the class and give them a copy of it to take home to show their parents.

Differentiated Instruction:
When they are placed in groups they will be placed in multi-ability groups so that everyone eill be ableto participate even if they do not know as much as the other studnets. If there are any special needs studnets who need assistive techknology for this activity it will be there for them to use if they want, it will not be forced upon them to use. With the multi-ability groups everyone will be on the same ability for using Kidsperation and Power point, because no body has used these programs before.

Sample Student Products:
Attachments:
 1.  Bats Power Point

Collaboration:
Students will work collaboratively. Students will work in groups of 3.

Time Allotment:
2 class periods. 45 Min. per class.

Author's Comments & Reflections:
Before starting this activity place the students in the assigned groups. Then begin the lesson plan. The time can be extended as long as they students are working productively and it would be a bad time to stop. Since it will be their first time using these programs the teacher may need to be guided for the first part of the activity, or just let them discover it on their own.

MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
Instructional Materials:
Attachments:
 1.  Bats handouts
 2.  Second Bat handout
 3.  Word wall
 4.  Bat information
 5.  Bats vs. birds

Resources:
  • In a computer lab, where they can do research on their own if they would like and them come together and create and outline all together as a group.
  • The number of computers required is 1 per 3 students.
  • Technology resources:
    Kidspiration, PowerPoint
  • Materials and resources:
Internet, Books, magezines, other research objects.
  • Students Familiarity with Software Tool:
Studnets do have some experience with working with computers, but not a lot of experience working with Power point and Kidspiration.
