Application Part III: Skills Performance
Note: Links open in a new browser window. Part III of the application is already included in the Program Application form. You may also access these instructions if you go back to the Program Application and login to access your information.
This part of the application will test some of the skills you will
need to participate in an online course, such as sending and receiving e-mail
with attachments. In addition you will need to acquire a letter of recommendation. Please read each set of instructions thoroughly before beginning
the assigned task.
Step I -- Sending and Receiving E-Mail
For this part of the application you need to create two documents and send them both as an attachment to an email:
Use a word processing application, such as MS Word, Word
Perfect, or Claris Works to write a formal letter of application in business-style format. If you use a program other than Word, save your document in Rich Text Format (.rtf) or PDF format before sending it as an attachment.
- A Current Resume or Vitae.
- A Letter of Intent
In your letter,
address the following:
- Your Career Goals (What do you plan to do
with this degree?)
- Whether you want to
enroll in the Educational Technology Certificate Program or
the MEd in Educational Technology degree program.
- Your present position: teacher,
technology coordinator, administrator, etc.
- Experience with Technology (platforms,
applications, in labs, in classrooms)
- Strengths you bring to the program (Describe the strengths that you bring to the program.)
- Your expectations of the program (What do
you want to learn from this program?)
- Your commitment to the online learning environment (Describe what you think an online learning environment looks like and what you think the advantages would be for you in taking
courses in this format.)
Once you write the letter and save it in the correct format (if you need to do it), attach it to an email message and send it to edtech-coordinator@nau.edu. In the
body of the email message provide an introduction to yourself and what we'll find in the attachments.
When we receive your e-mail message with the attached letter and your resume, we will
send a reply to your email box. If you do not receive this reply,
that means we did not get your email and you should try again. Please wait at least 48 hrs. to receive our notification before you try again.
Step II -- Letter of Recommendation
Secure a letter of recommendation to be written by
someone who can describe your skills, knowledge, and experience with
technology in a learning environment. You were (or will be) asked for this letter during your application to the graduate college. You do not need to submit two separate letters. If you did not request a letter of recommendation during your graduate college application, you may also ask the recommender to send it via email as an attachment to edtech-coordinator@nau.edu. The person writing the letter of recommendation for you can also send it via regular mail to:
Ed Tech Coordinator
College of Education
P.O. Box 5774
