The NAU chapter of Blue Key Honor Society has many exciting service plans for this semester.

So far we have:

· helped with the Celebrate Youth day at the local Flagstaff Mall;

· raised money for Big Brothers Big Sisters at their bowl-a-thon;

· and helped staff Relay for Life (fundraiser for American Cancer Society).

Some of our future service events include:

· holding a casino night at a local senior center,

· assisting Juvenile Diabetes Fund (JDF) walk;

· washing fire trucks for rural fire stations;

· assisting with current Habitat for Humanity projects,

· assisting with Citizens Against Substance Abuse (CASA) youth dances,

· and another Relay for Life held in Sedona, AZ.

We also helped out other NAU service organizations traditionally affiliated with Blue Key with their commitment to service, including blood drives and the JDF walk.

Our major fundraiser for the United Way this year is an 8K/5K run and 2K walk. Several years ago, Blue Key held this event, but due to bad weather it was eliminated. We feel that the community of Flagstaff as well as NAU needs this race to be brought back. For the past 22 years, we held a “Vegas Night” fundraiser for the United Way but our profits were down due to a saturated market. Since tradition is very important to us we decided to draw our donation money from another source, the 8K run. We hope to raise about $2000-$3000 from this event and all of it will be donated to a charity of our choice within the United Way.

The NAU Homecoming parade was, as always, a huge success this year and plans are already being set up to put it on next year’s festivities. We are fundraising to send chapter representatives to the National Conference this summer in Golden, CO. We hope to see you there! Have a great semester!
