NEW!! Gregory Bateson Film.

The film, Ecology of Mind, which is a biography of Gregory Bateson, is due to be complete in the February, 2010. This exceptional look into the ideas and life of Gregory Bateson has been masterfully crafted by his youngest daughter, Nora Bateson. This film is intended for high school, university, and the general public. Companion materials will be available for students and teachers.

Since my initial introduction to Gregory Bateson in 1974, through his book, Steps to an Ecology of Mind, and my great fortune to study with him during a 5-week live-in workshop on education at Naropa Institute in the summer of 1975, I have continually connected and re-connected to his work. At this point, his influence is a dominant part of my thinking and work. The following information and links will provide further details on his influence of connections and contexts ("there is no meaning without context").

Areas of Influence (the links in the list below do not yet work... please standby):

  • Contexts of Meaning
  • Context Mapping
  • Integrating Curriculum for Complex Learning
  • Teaching and Learning for Transfer
  • Learning and Consciousness
  • Dynamic Systems in Student Discourse
  • Metapatterns in Research
  • Communities in Schools and Business: Holarchies vs. Hierarchies
  • Additional Resources on Metapatterns
  • A Photographic Journey of Metapatterns
