Course Objectives

In accordance with the attached CEE Mission Statement, these courses will prepare education professionals to create the schools of tomorrow.

Course Outline

This course addresses theoretical and practical issues relating to the following areas of language and literacy education.

A.     Foundations of early literacy development

B.     The home and family literacy development

C.     Language and literacy development

D.     Reading and literacy development

E.      Developing positive attitudes toward reading through the use of children's literature

F.      Developing concepts about books and comprehension of text

G.     Developing reading through learning about print

H.     Writing and literacy development

I.        Organizing and managing the learning environment for literacy development at school

Course Structure/Approach

Lecture, small group discussion, hands-on literacy experiences, demonstrations.
