ECI 310 Course Objectives

In accordance with the attached CEE Mission Statement, this course will prepare education professionals to create the schools of tomorrow. You will develop knowledge, abilities and attitudes that will be necessary for you to implement exemplary literacy instruction in K-8 classrooms. 

 

This course will address theoretical and practical issues relating to the following areas of language and literacy education.

 

A. The development of language 

B. The reading and writing processes

C. Planning for instruction in the reading/writing program

D. Supporting, the reading and writing program

E. Using literature in the reading/writing program

F. Basal readers in the reading/writing program 

G. When children write their own material 

H. Assessing reading and writing development

I.  Assisting children with comprehension 

J.  Assisting children with content-area reading 

K. Teaching, reading and writing through social studies and the sciences

L. Teaching reading and writing through the arts

M. Planning thematic units and integrating the curriculum
