Welcome to Northern Arizona Literacy Enterprises (NALE) at Northern Arizona University (NAU). NALE and its sister entity, the Northern Arizona Writing Project (NAWP), have been providing quality, research-based professional development in-service programs to teachers and administrators throughout Arizona and the West since 1988, primarily in reading, writing and technology literacy.

We offer a variety of professional development training programs that we can bring to you, at your school, during the school year and/or summer. Or, if you would like to experience Flagstaff’s spectacular environment (including cool temperatures in the summer, and skiing in the winter) then we are more than happy to host you and your colleagues on NAU’s campus in a program custom-designed for you. Another northern Arizona option is to participate in one of NAWP’s existing summer programs, such as the Summer Writing Institute and Writing the Canyon, where you will meet educators from throughout the State of Arizona.

NALE is directed by Dr. Greg Larkin, a NAU faculty member, and is one of NAU’s community outreach units. Because of our affiliation with NAU, a well-known and respected doctoral degree institution: 1) We have access to, and incorporate into our programs and services, the latest educational research, 2) We can offer you NAU university credit training courses, in addition to professional development hours and 3) NALE has access to NAU’s extensive and world-renowned extended education delivery system to provide our customized training, programs and services.

NALE is comprised of dedicated professionals who have a wealth of experience in the classroom as K-12 teachers, administrators, trainers and evaluators. In NALE’s workshops and one-on-one mentoring, our trainers speak from years of classroom experience, and offer valuable insights and tips into incorporating the training materials into the classroom.

For over fifteen years NALE has been developing and delivering customized training to schools and school districts throughout Arizona. We focus on some of the most under-served locations in our area, including the many Native American reservations.
