Job Opening With NALE
Fall and Spring Semester, 2004-2005
Teach general pedagogy, general literacy, and reading and writing methods classes for K-12 teachers on the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona and mentor teachers in their classrooms. Most of the students and some of the teachers are limited English proficient.
Teach either 2 courses with a four-day residency (M-Th) at a combination of two schools ($23,800) or one course with a two-day residency at one school ($11,900). Housing and utilities at the school site on the Reservation is included at no cost.
No health benefits provided.
Qualifications:
Masters in reading, education, applied linguistics, bilingual/multicultural education, reading specialist, or other area related to literacy required.
Classroom experience with K-12 students required.
One position requires either a reading endorsement or 5 years teaching reading to children and the ability to teach reading specialist courses for teachers.
Experience training K-12 teachers helpful.
Experience with Native American teachers and/or students desired.
Desire to work in isolated, extremely remote rural area, and desire to work with those of another culture required.
Position is grant-funded and subject to availability of
funds. A background check will be performed prior to employment.
