LyX is available in the computer labs. It is freely available to download and install from the LyX web site. The installation script automatically installs LaTeX as well. LyX template (right click to download)

LaTeX is also available in our computer labs. I recommend that you use https://cloud.sagemath.com or https://www.overleaf.com if you prefer LaTeX over LyX.

Test 3: Monday 5/2.
Please review the Test Etiquette.

Homework to turn in:
  1. Due Monday 1/25: Set 0 # 3 (State the versions of Claims 1 and 2 that work for the n=2016, k=100 case. Prove these claims and then use them to prove that the total sum is positive. Try to generalize the problem by finding a condition on n and k that makes the claim true.)
  2. Due Friday 1/29: Set 0 # 4 (Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution. Explain every step of the solution. Try to follow the style of the two sample solutions I distributed.)
  3. Due Monday 2/8: Portfolio. See description in the syllabus. It should include material about: Problem set 0, equations and inequalitites involving absolute value, dot connecting game. Include a list of problem solving techniques we encountered so far.
  4. Due Wednesday 2/10: Set 1 # 3.
  5. Due Wednesday 2/17: Set 1 # 10. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
    - Make sure you indicate the definition of a case if you use case analysis.
    - Do not forget to combine your solution in a specific case with the defining condition of the case.
    - Do not forget to combine the results of the cases into a complete solution.
    - Use number line figures. You can draw this by hand.
  6. Due Monday 2/22: Set 2 # 9. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  7. Due Wednesday 2/24: Set 2 # 7. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  8. Due Wednesday 3/2: Find and prove a formula for 1^2 + 2^2 + ... + n^2 = . Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  9. Due Monday 3/7: Set 3 # 1. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  10. Due Friday 3/11: Set 2 # 2. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution. Include precise hand drawn figures.
  11. Due Wednesday 3/23: Set 3 # 9. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution. Include hand drawn figures.
  12. Due Monday 3/28: Set 4 # 7(a) (change n^2 with n^3) Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  13. Due Friday 4/1: Set 4 # 5. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  14. Due Friday 4/15: Inequality problem distributed in class. Also available on Bblearn. Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  15. Due Wednesday 4/20: Set 6 # 3 Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
  16. Due Monday 4/25: Set 5 # 6 Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution. Use the first (algorithmic) solution we discussed.
  17. Due Friday 4/29: Set 5 # 1 Use the LyX or the LaTeX template file to typeset your solution.
