The world is changing at an incredible pace. In the past century we have seen major changes in the home and the workplace. Society has become much more diverse and multicultural than experienced in the past. The number of single-parent homes has increased as well. The workplace has become much more complex with recent advances in technology. Today's workers must be able to communicate well with a variety of media and be able to think and reason critically in addition to being knowledgeable and skillful. They must be effective decision-makers and problem-solvers as well as collegial and self-directed. The Praxis Program centers on the impact of these changes on education. We are building upon the following assumptions as stated in CEE's Mission Statement :
OUR PHILOSOPHY What is Success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; That is to have succeeded. RALPH WALDO EMERSON
Emerson's words form part of the philosophy of the Praxis Program. They epitomize how it is that one might grow and find personal success in this particular field-based program. |
