Paleogeography of Central Arizona during deposition of middle unit of Beavertail Conglomerate and related deposits.
General topography follows that of the lower unit. Eruption of the Sullivan Buttes latite NE of Chino Valley disrupted and possibly dammed streams in the area (Dilliard, 2001). South of Sedona, fine-grained marl, sandstone, volcanic ash, and limestone accumulated during rapid agradation, probably in lacustrine settings. Probable change in base level downstream or damming of stream systems likely caused the lakes to form.
