A qualitative research study is being conducted throughout the duration of this course. The focus of the study is how the web stream media impacts students enrolled in the course. The researchers, Dr. Thom Alcoze and Dr. Sally Oran, will examine two issues: 1) student's perceptions of equitable voice in a web classroom, and 2) students' experiences with traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples.

The data for this research will be regular course assignments posted on the web site or submitted to the professor. In addition, students will participate in one focus group meeting of approximately one hour. Students may also be asked to participate in an individual, qualitative interview. The focus group and the individual interview will be scheduled at the convenience of the participants.

As outlined in the consent form, participation in this study is entirely voluntary and will not affect a student's grade in any way. Each student's confidentiality will be protected by use of a pseudonym in all published references to this work.

I agree to voluntarily participate in a qualitative research study conducted by Dr. Thom Alcoze and Dr. Sally Oran during my enrollment in FOR 398, spring semester, 2000. I understand that my participation includes submitting regular course assignments, participating in a qualitative focus group and my individual interview will be audiotaped or conducted via E-mail. The details of my participation have been explained by Dr. Thom Alcoze and Dr. Sally Oran and I understand that I can withdraw my participation from this project at any time and there will be no penalty. My agreement to participate or not to participate in this research will not affect my grade in FOR 398 in any way. I understand that any product published as part of this research will preserve my confidentiality and pseudonyms.
