Most of the content of these pages was authored by physical therapy graduate students enrolled in PT 735- Interventions in Neuromuscular Therapeutics: Advances in Spinal Cord Injury Management, a course taught in the Department of Physical Therapy at Northern Arizona University.


North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA)

This site offers extensive information on therapeutic riding and its application to individuals with a wide range of disabilities; including physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Other beneficial links may be accessed through this page, such as the American Hippotherapy Association and the Independent Equestrians.

High Hopes Therapeutic Riding

High Hopes Therapeutic Riding is a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) accredited organization established in 1974 by Mary Gould, OldLyme, Connecticut, USA. This group assists those with physical, emotional and developmental disabilites in improving quality of life through riding opportunities. In addition, this organization is a leading facility for instructor education and training. All instructors are NARHA certified; certified hippotherapy therapists are also instructors for this group.

horsePower Therapeutic Learning Center

The horsePower Therapeutic Learning Center is a non-profit organziation, located in North Carolina, USA and directed by Janet Clifford (since 1995). This riding center offers opportunities to individuals with physical and psychological disabilities to explore and enjoy rural surroundings, "with the pseudo-mobility of a four-legged companion and the restored emotional wellness that a new companion bestows."

RideAble Recreational/Therapeutic Horseback Riding

RideAble provides riding opportunities for special needs populations of all ages. The base location for RideAble is Royal Heritage Farm in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Riders at this facility have access to indoor/outdoor arenas and trails. Riders may work to accomplish therapeutic goals as well as improving recreational riding skills.

Strides Therapeutic Riding

This community oriented non-profit organization is located in Northridge, California, USA. Strides is a NARHA premier accredited center featuring a multidimensional approach to therapeutic riding that includes medical, behavioral and educational aspects. This website offers a comprehensive view on therapeutic riding, including the perspectives of riders, volunteers, interns and equine specialists. This site also links to a wealth of educational resources, such as books, articles and contemporary research related to numerous aspects of therapeutic riding.

Paralympian Online

The Paralympian Online is the online newsletter of the United States Paralympic Committee. Displayed on this site is a large amount of general and specific information on Paralympic sports, including equestrian.. Rules and regulations, classification, records and results of past Paralympic equestrian competitions are listed; also a calendar of events, contact information and links to other related equestrian sites.
