1. Recently as Mars was examined by the "rover," scientists back on earth were saying that water, and lots of it, had been present on Mars, perhaps a billion years ago. What does this idea mean to you as you read page 21? 2 points.

2. What does density mean? What is the freezing point of water in degrees C? What happens to water
molecules at 4 degrees C? at 0 degrees C? Why is this characteristic important to aquatic life? 5 points.

3. Explain why an insect (water strider) can "walk on water?" 1 point.

4. Carbohydrates are the most abundant organic compounds found in nature. Give two examples to
support this statement. 2 points.

5. Animals do not use photosynthesis in any form. However, all animals (including humans) are extremely dependent on photosynthesis. Why? Answer is not, "That's were the food comes from." A more detailed explanation is required. 2 points.

6. Visit a supermarket and select five items of foods with nutritional labels. Do this either randomly or choose your favorites. Compare the amount of saturated and unsaturated fats. Which ones, if any, listed polyunsaturated fats? 5 points.
