CENS Curriculum Committee procedures:
1. Submission of items. All curricular items and supporting materials must be submitted electronically to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs by the deadline provided in the Curriculum Committee schedule, which is usually one week prior to the scheduled meeting. All items must be accompanied by a document indicating the department chair’s approval. This document may be a hard copy of each proposal with an original signature, an electronic signature on each electronic proposal, or an email from the chair listing the items that are being submitted and indicating his/her approval.
2. Processing, step 1. Upon receipt of the materials from a department, the Associate Dean will check the items for completeness. If incomplete, they will be returned for revision. If complete, they will be forwarded to the committee chair and posted in the agenda for the upcoming meeting. Consideration of incomplete proposals may be delayed if they cannot be corrected before the submission deadline.
3. Processing, step 2. Upon receipt of the materials from the Associate Dean, the committee chair will contact the department chair of the originating department to request that a departmental representative attend the meeting. Items will be automatically tabled at the meeting if a departmental representative is not present and/or the requested copies are not delivered to the dean’s office by the specified deadline.
4. Distribution of the agenda. An e-mail from the committee chair will be distributed to the committee members and department chairs announcing the agenda of the upcoming meeting, generally one or four days after the deadline for the receipt of materials. The agenda will be posted on the committee's web site with links to each proposal. The web-site will be maintained by the Associate Dean. A link to the committee's website is present on CENS home page.
5. Once an item is approved, a final paper copy of the proposal and its supporting documentation, signed by the department chair ore his/her designate is required in the dean’s office as soon as possible for approval signatures of the committee chair and the dean. Once these signatures are obtained, the materials will be forwarded to the UCC or UGC, which ever is appropriate.
6. Posting of the minutes. As soon as practical after each meeting, the minutes will be posted to the committee's web site.
