Topic 5: Microanatomy of the Nervous System

GOAL: TO PRESENT THE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NEURAL TISSUE

Objectives:

  1. Distinguish neural tissue from other tissue types
  2. Describe the roles of neurotransmitters in the propagation of action potentials.
  3. Describe the general anatomy of the neuron and relate it to nervous system function.
  4. Differentiate the functions, morphology and locations of the three types of neurons.

To complete this topic successfully, please complete the following activities in the order shown below:

    icon ON-LINE LESSON: Neural Tissue

    icon GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Group Discussion

icon SELF-TEST : Neurological Foundations Self Test

    icon GAME: Play Neuroscience Hangman

Once you have completed these activities you should:

Go on to Module 3: Afferent Systems of Communication
    or
Go back to Gross Anatomy of the Nervous System Structures
