Objectives:

*    To identify the range of supports needed by families and provided to families 

*    To identify self-advocacy strategies families and individuals with disabilities use to get the services they need


To complete this assignment successfully, you should:

1.    Read the following articles.

2.    Complete the written assignment for 10 points.  

3.    The assignment is due by midnight, Sunday, March 12th.

icon      Go to the Beach Center on Families and Disability and read the following Family Support Research Factsheets (http://www.beachcenter.org/frames.php3?id=48&category=Family).  You'll see a search engine text box at this location.  Type in the following titles to retrieve the articles.  

1.    How to Tell People What You Want

2.    What You Should Know About the Impact of Exceptionality on the Family

3.    How to Renew Family Energy Through Respite Care

    Create a situation that an individual with a disability or family would face.  Suggest five (5) self-advocacy strategies that could be used by the individual or family to advocate for the support or services that would help them address the need or crisis.  Email your assignment to Becky.Raabe@nau.edu
