The NAU/Whiteriver ESL/BLE Graduate Fellowship Program

The Center for Excellence in Education at Northern Arizona University in partnership with the Whiteriver Schools is announcing the "NAU/Whiteriver ESL/BLE Graduate Fellowship program." The program's goal is to provide graduate teacher training for those teachers interested in obtaining the Arizona ESL/Bilingual Education endorsements. Participating teachers will take courses on-site at Whiteriver in the Fall and Spring semesters and at the NAU campus summer school sessions at Northern Arizona University. The program will pay for all tuition, books, class materials and fees. All expenses for on-campus Summer Sessions I and II at NAU will be covered, including room and board. This is a three-year project. Each year, a cohort of participating Whiteriver teacher-fellows will go through the one-year program of study to obtain the Arizona ESL/BLE Endorsements. The first group has just completed Summer School Sessions I and/or II (June-July 2001) and will continue with on-site courses at Whiteriver in the Fall and Spring Semesters. Some courses will be delivered by IITV and through the Internet. By May 2002, the first group of participating teachers will have obtained their endorsements. Those teachers at Whiteriver who may already have some courses toward the endorsements can also participate. If you need a few more courses to obtain the endorsements, you are also eligible to apply and to participate. ALL high school, middle school and elementary school teachers in Whiteriver are eligible to participate in this fellowship program supported by the Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Languages Affairs (OBEMLA), U.S. Department of Education. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact NAU Professor and advisor, Dr. Roberto Luis Carrasco; or contact Ms. Kristin Thole, Administrative Assistant, NAU/The Center for Excellence in Education.
