Welcome

Welcome to the Chaos and Complexity Theories new website

(a Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association)

This website is a venue for sharing and discussing ideas we hope will prove useful to those interested in the intersection of complexity theories and education. The site's primary purpose is to help SIG members stay abreast of the affairs of the SIG, share opportunities and resources, and provide a source of papers, commentaries, and other information. However, the SIG also is interested in joining with a larger community interested in exploring new analytical tools, concepts, and other topics related to issues of learning, teaching, development, and classroom, school, and professional community organization.

Complexity theories focus on a way of understanding rather than on a single method or a topic of research or practice. It is still unclear just how chaos and complexity theories are best understood and with what range of phenomena they are most useful. There is exciting work to be done. And, this website is dedicated to supporting that work.

The New Chaos and Complexity SIG Web Site

by Jeff Bloom

http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/chaplx-p

Last spring, our SIG's web site was moved from the University of Delaware to Northern Arizona University. This move included a major change in the structure of the site. This new structure (a content management system structure known as PHP-Fusion) provides a number of new features, as well as an easier way to add content.

The new site has a great deal of potential to enhance our ongoing communication, spread the word of complexity sciences in education, and help us with our own research and theorizing. However, in order to realize this potential, we need to utilize and participate in the features of this site.

This site is ours. We can make it work for us in ways that we have been unable to do in the past. Please add a page on yourself (under Members' Pages), participate in Forums, add Comments, use the Shoutbox, and submit articles, news, links, and photographs (we can create new categories as needed). We also can send group and private email messages to other site members. The more we use this site, the more we can expand our sense of community, with the potential to increase our SIG membership, as well.
