SPEECH SOUND DISORDERS
Most children make some mistakes as they learn to say new workds. A speech sound disorder occurs when mistakes continue past a certain age. Every sound has a different range of ages when the child should make the sound correctly. Speech sound disorders include problems with articulation (making sounds) and phonological processes (sound patterns).
The NAU Clinic provides evaluation and therapy services for children and adults with speech sound disorders. Evaluation services include hearing testing, oral-motor screening, and in-depth analysis of sound use at the word, sentence, and conversational level. Recommendations are given regarding the age-appropriateness of sound development and whether a client would benefit from therapy.
