SPEECH CLINIC HEARING LOSS
Hearing loss is experienced by many people and may be due to a variety of etiologies including environmental causes, disease, and heredity. Hearing loss may range from mild to severe (deaf). Management of hearing impairment may include use of hearing aids and use of alternative communication options, among others.
A hearing aid is a miniature amplification system used to alter sound to improve sound reception by the listener. Hearing aids are undergoing vast changes thanks to the miniaturatization of hearing aid parts and the incorporation of computer technology.
The first step in obtaining your hearing aid is a basic audiological evaluation. You will receive an explanation of your hearing loss and, if appropriate, a recommendation for a hearing aid evaluation. The hearing aid consultation determines which hearing aids will best suit your needs.
