Land
Objectives:
In this topic, “Land,” we will look at how American cultural perceptions
of nature have shaped environmental policies. Through reading chapter
one in Nature’s Bounty entitled, “Forests” we will gain a historical perspective
regarding the evolution of policies surrounding logging versus preservation.
Through the on-line lesson we will look at the “final frontier,” the desert.
We will specifically explore “urban sprawl,” overdevelopment of the Sonoran
Desert (what you are living in if you live in Arizona!) and cultural perceptions
that may encourage environmental destruction.
