All distribution courses that count for liberal studies credit under the new program must meet the new guidelines that have been approved as part of the liberal studies plan. The Liberal Studies Committee is responsible for evaluating and approving courses for liberal studies as syllabi are submitted by departments. These approvals and evaluations will be based on the commitment of courses to address the following:
- Distribution Blocks
-
all courses must fit into one of the distribution blocks (science, social and political worlds, aesthetic and humanistic inquiry, cultural understanding,).
- Essential Skills
-
all courses that students will take for liberal studies must address at least one of the essential skills that have been designated as important to student development and progress (critical thinking, effective writing, effective oral communication, scientific reasoning, quantitative reasoning).
- Assessment
-
each course will need to indicate how the development of skills and distribution block learning outcomes will be assessed.

The courses are reviewed by the Committee in the order they are received. The following schedule has been established for fall 2008.
