| March and April |
Already have Passport in hand. Receive invitation and Process Visa see. See a doctor and get vaccinations (Hep A, Hep B, Havrax, Tetnus BDiptheria). |
| JULY 13 or 14 Depends on air schedule. |
Meet at Phoenix AIRPORT and fly together
into Moscow. We must fly together because being lost in Moscow is a bad thing. I know, I tried it and technically, I should still be there (lost and alone). |
| Arrive
Day 2-3 |
Overnight flight on Aeroflot to Barnaul. Marathon Bus travel to Arti-Bash, the portal to Altaiski Zapovednik and one of the wildest places on earth. |
| Day 4-5 |
Meet with Altai Zapovednik Staff and check out the
facilities. We will have time on the beautiful Lake Teletskoya working either
at the base or traveling to base camps somewhere on the 70 km lake. The forest
type is mountain taiga (boreal). |
| Day 6-7 | Interview and meetings with town leaders
in Arti-Bash. As a town undergoing extreme growing pains, they will
have a great story to tell about tourism taking off in the region. Assess
the effects of ecotourism. |
| Day 7-18 | Field expedition in Altai Mountains. This
portion of the expedition will depend upon the needs of the zapovednik.
The living conditions will be primitive, both while we are camping and at
the base site. We may travel on foot 5-8 miles per day for six days. We
will be at altitudes ranging from 5000 to 10,000 feet in an Alpine environment.

| Day 19-20 | Travel to Barnaul Recuperate and have introductory lectures on the Altai region. Meet local experts from the University and non-government organization KATUN. Discuss National Park plans, NGO infrastructure building. |
| Day 21 | Return to Moscow. |
| Day 22-25 | travel to Oksky Zapovednik. Crane
prgram and Bison re-introduction. We will be discussing the issues and challenges for protected areas in Central Russia. |
| Night of 25 or early 26. | Retrun to Moscow |
| Day 26-28 | Meet national and regional experts in Moscow.
