Waste
Case Study

Solid Waste
In addition to the air
and water waste streams described in those case studies, CCP has two solid waste streams
that are candidates for off-site treatment,
storage, or disposal. Following is a brief description of those two waste streams:
Waste Stream #1
Description of waste stream: Filter
cake from production of bulk pharmaceutical intermediate products
Volume: 2500 pounds per month
State: Solid filter medium
Constituents: Cellulose filter
material; spent non-halogenated solvents, including acetone, toluene, and xylene.
Waste Stream #2
Description of waste stream: Sludge
from equalization basin of wastewater treatment plan used for pretreatment of process
wastewater from production of bulk pharmaceutical intermediate products
Volume: 1500 5000 pounds per
month
State: Water, miscellaneous salts,
and miscellaneous organic chemicals
Constituents: The sludge has a flash
point of 63 degrees C, as determined by a Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Testor. Under standard
temperature and pressure, the sludge is not capable of causing fire through friction,
absorption of moisture, or spontaneous chemical changes.
