Homework Assignment 3 (20 points)

  1. Calculate the pH of a solution of the strong acid HCl, if the concentration of HCl is 3.5 x 10-4 M.
  2. Calculate the pOH of the solution given in problem 1.
  3. Calculate the solubility of silver ion, Ag+, in a solution of 0.001 Molar NaCl. The solubility product constant for silver chloride is Ksp = 1.8 X 10-10.
  4. Calculate the pH of a solution of acetic acid, a weak acid, if 1.0 x 10-3 mol of acetic acid is dissolved in one liter of water. The acid dissociation constant for acetic acid, Ka = 1.8 x 10-5 .
  5. Calculate the pOH of the solution in question 4.
