Wood Diaphragms


Sub-Module Objective:
The major focus of this sub-module is to introduce you to the behavior and design of those roof elements that work together as the horizontal diaphragm.

Sub-Module Directions:
This sub-module has been subdivided into five major topics. You will need to work through each topic sequentially. Project and other requirements, however, are provided on this page for all topics. Three of the topics are divided into sub-topics. In these situations, topic information and directions are provided on the topic home page.
  1. Study the 5 topics as outlined in the following on-line lecture notes.
  2. Complete the reading assignments.
  3. Come to class prepared to discuss the following topics:
    • Building Behavior, Diaphragm Basics: Day 3
    • Example: Day 4
    • Chords and Anchorage: Day 5
    • Advanced Topics: Day 6
