Project
Student-Specific Project Details
Each student will be completing a slightly different project as detailed in the table given below. The transverse wall
direction, building location according to seismic zone and wind, and masonry unit strength are varied.
The following design criteria, however, are common to all projects:
- Masonry: Type S mortar, Grade 40 rebar, Special inspection required,
8" x 8" x 16" standard concrete masonry units, Assume a partially grouted
wall configuration.
- Solid-sawn lumber: No. 2 Douglas-fir Larch,
- OSB APA-rated structural-use panels.
- Glued laminated beam: Visually-graded western species 24F-V4
- Building Code: 1997 UBC
- Wind Criteria: Normal force method and exposure category C
- Roof and Ceiling Construction: Built-up roofing membrane consisting
of 3-ply with gravel, 4 inches of loose insulation, lights, and a channel-suspended
ceiling. Assume that there is an all-air HVAC system using ceiling space
ducts and registers and some rooftop equipment.
- Allowable deflection criteria for roof members:
DLL £
L/240 and DTL £
L/180.
- If your building is located in seismic zone 4, assume that the site
is more than 9.3 miles from a seismic source.
