Wood Beams

The intent of this module is two-fold: (1) to provide you with a basic understanding of the physical and mechanical characteristics of wood as related to structural beam applications, and (2) to provide you with the analytical tools and design knowledge needed to design simple wood roof structures. Reference will be made to the Uniform Building Code and the applicable industry standard - the 1997 National Design Specification for Wood Construction, (NDS).

This module has been subdivided into four secondary modules called -- solid-sawn, other types, adjustment factors, and design -- each of which are further divided into topics and sub-topics. Directions for using each of the secondary modules are provided on the corresponding top pages.
