Restaurant Management Systems

"There are those commentators who insist that the collapse of the U.S.S.R. resulted from the colossal mismatch of the sluggish, centrally controlled Soviet economy vs. the flexibility and technological sophistication required for a nation to function in the modern age - the information age." Julie Woodman, "The Byte Stuff 1991," Restaurants and Institutions

According to Brian Sill, principal of Deterministics, a foodservice management and consulting company:" To compete effectively in the markets of tomorrow, all stages of the restaurant production and service chain must act in concert, so as to ultimately deliver quality products at the right prices to the right guests at the right times. Failure to do so can result in excess inventory, poor food quality, poor guest service, underutilized capacity, and unnecessary cost. Restaurant technology helps management monitor and coordinate these activities in a more timely and focused manner."

This module discusses point-of-sale systems and how to construct and operate an inventory control and menu management system with appendices that provide an overview of restaurant management system applications and a point-of-sale system checklist. The reader also learns about table management systems and home delivery software.
