Computers and information systems offer some good news and bad news. According to George Hall, "The good news is that the potential for the strategic use of information systems has been barely tapped? The bad news is that many attempts to do so have failed." Why? Because many operations have purchased hardware and software without an information plan. This can be compared to building houses without blueprints or the services of a contractor.

This module discusses a comprehensive strategy for selecting and implementing hospitality information systems. You will also learn how to develop a request for proposal (RFP).

This module is divided into two topical areas:
  1. Steps in System Selection
  2. Implementation of System

The lesson objectives for this module are for you to:
  1. Understand the steps involved in system selection.
  2. Understand that information needs vary by organizational type and at each level of organizational activity.
  3. Describe the process of evaluating vendor products and an operation's computing needs.
  4. Develop a request for proposal.
  5. Identify factors critical to system selection.
  6. Describe the process of selecting an information system.
  7. Understand how to analyze a purchase agreement.
  8. Describe conversion strategies and the process of implementing an information system.
