TERM PAPER

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain in-depth knowledge about four different technology applications. The learning objectives are:

• To learn about existing and emerging technologies.
• To understand how to use the technology to solve problems and/or create opportunities within a hospitality context.
• To engender creative and analytical thinking in the application of technology to hospitality situations.

Requirements:

1. Write a comprehensive review of four different technologies. Each technology review should provide:

a. A detailed description of the technology. Potential topics include handheld computing (e.g., remote check-in), Web-based systems (e.g., PMS, CRS), biometrics (e.g., employee identification), customer relationship management, sales force automation, expert systems (e.g., revenue or yield management, security (e.g., electronic locking system), Intranet, accounting (e.g. payroll), labor management and scheduling, E-procurement (online ordering), table management, Internet dining reservation system, in-room technologies (e.g., Internet access, interactive digital entertainment), customer information systems, videophones, voice messaging, e-mail, executive information systems, club management, etc.

b. If applicable, how the technology has been used in different non-hospitality environments.

c. Current and future uses (be creative) of the technology in hospitality environments.

d. An assessment of the impact or potential impact of the technology on operational performance.

2. The term paper should be 16 to 20 pages in length:

a. Cover sheet with student name, date, and title of work.

b. Number pages in upper right corner.

c. Double space work; use Times New Roman 12 point.

d. Section headings should be left aligned.

e. Assume 300 words per double-spaced page.

f. It must contain 8-12 references.

g. Follow APA guidelines.

This project is divided into three assignments.

Assignment 1 (10/07): Briefly describe the four technologies that you plan to write about.

Assignment 2 (11/04): Submit a detailed paper outline.

Assignment 3 (12/02): Submit a 16 to 20-page double-spaced paper.
