Resort Reservation Research Project

25 Points

Due 3rd Week

Choose a new resort property anywhere in the world that you would like to visit. Do not choose one that you have visited or know about. This project is about learning how to access specific resorts, reviewing the information that they provide in their websites, and comparing the resort features, amenities and services with other resort options. Try to assemble as much information as possible about your resort by calling 800 numbers, using the Internet, or visiting a travel agent. Then compare your experience in one of the following ways:

  1. Compare your experience over the Internet to an 800 operator for the resort and company that you researched.
  2. Compare to a second resort in the same destination but a different company.

Prepare a three page report including at least one exhibit, double spaced, describing the following:

  1. How easy was it to get information on your resort?
  2. Where did you get your information? (Internet, 800 number, travel agency, other)
  3. Did the information turn you on or turn you off about going to the resort?
  4. What impressed you about this resort? What disappointed you about this resort?
  5. What rates were quoted? Did they try and upsale or fade?
  6. How friendly and helpful were the reservations agents or how user friendly was the Internet site?
  7. Would your recommend this resort to a friend?

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to research a resort and find out how easy or hard it is to get information about that resort and did the information help you decide to book a reservation. If you liked the resort, make a reservation and determine how easy or hard it was to make. You can cancel the reservation the next day.

Points to Consider

As you research your resort, determine how that resort chose to market itself. Was it easy to get information and from what source? Did that information help you make a decision to go/not go to that resort? Why?

What kind of rate information did they provide and how did they sell their resort? Were they friendly, flexible and helpful? Did they try to find a rate or time that would fit your needs?

Compare this experience with another resort that you have visited and explain the differences, advantages, and your overall experience.
