HA401 : The Class : Finance : Profit and Loss : Summary
The primary purposes for a resort is to provide great customer experiences for guests and to make an acceptable financial return or profit. It is important to understand how a resort meets these expectations. They provide many more food and beverage options, expanded group and meetings facilities, and a wide range of recreational and leisure activities. These additional outlets or departments provide the services or experiences to the guests and record the revenues and expenses associated with providing these services and experiences.
Resort P&Ls are more complicated and include a wide range of additional departments compared to typical full service hotels. All resort managers should have an understanding of their own department operations as well as how it fits in with and impacts the entire resort operations. Having a strong financial understanding of resort operations is critical to operating a successful resort.
