John Sciacca received his bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts following
two and a half years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa. He received an MPH from the University of
Hawaii, School of Public Health, an MA in Management and Supervision (Health Administration track) from
Central Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Health Promotion from Purdue University.
Dr. Sciacca's professional experience includes six years as the Health Education and Administration
Officer for the international Center for Technical and Cultural Interchange Between East and West
(The East West Center in Honolulu), three years as the Health Advocate Program Coordinator for the
Purdue University Hospital, eleven years as Director of the Arizona Health Careers Opportunity
Program, six years as Chair of the Department of Health Sciences at NAU, and two years as Executive
Director of the School of Health Professions, and Interim Dean, College of Health & Human
Services. Since coming to Arizona in 1985, he has worked with
public and community health agencies on Cardio Vascular Disease reduction, immunization programs,
breast-feeding promotion, tobacco prevention, injury control, diabetes prevention, and school health
programs.
He served for 10 years with the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. and has
served on the Board of Directors of several county, state, and national organizations. He often
writes and presents on topics related to evaluating public health programs and conducting effective
health promotion/disease prevention interventions.
His awards include
