DL-BAS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the BAS requires the completion of an Associate's degree. The BAS degree program at NAU accepts 64 hours of transfer credit earned from an accredited community college. To complete the BAS degree, students take an additional 56 hours for a total of 120 hours (required for graduation). At least 36 of the 56 hours must be upper division and at least 30 of those 56 hours must be taken from NAU.

*Transfer blocks must include courses deemed equivalent to HS 200 Health Principles and BIO 201-202 Anatomy and Physiology; ENG 101 and 102; college algebra or equivalent; and an appropriate lab science course.

** Students should check with their advisor prior to completing any hours for elective credit

BAS Core Requirements: The 21 hours in the BAS core requirements are designed to assist students in acquiring knowledge in management, organization, ethics, and policy issues and strengthening professional communication, computer, and statistical skills. Of those 21 hours, students must choose seven 3-credit courses from a current list of approved courses. These courses serve a wide variety of BAS programs and some courses are more appropriate than others for BAS students in health sciences. Please consult your advisor for assistance in selecting courses. These courses are available on the web although they are not all offered every semester.

Examples of the existing courses for the BAS Core are listed below. An asterisk (*) indicates that the course is also a liberal studies course and can be used to fulfill requirements in both sections (Instructor may waive prerequisite courses.)  We strongly encourage you to contact your advisor prior to selecting BAS Core courses.

Liberal Studies The 14 hours in liberal studies are for students who need to complete their liberal studies requirements. These 14 hours are only an estimate. You may be able to take fewer or be required to take more liberal studies courses depending on your transcript evaluation. Health Sciences Specialization: The 21 hours in the specialization requirements focus on Health Sciences. Below is a sample of existing courses for the HS Specialization area. From this list, a minimum of 21 hours is required. These are offered by distance education to meet the competencies recommended for health professionals. If there are prerequisites for a course, these may be waived with instructor approval.
