The objective
of this assignment is to provide you information about golf course development
and operations. They are a very important part of resort operations and very
distinctive in their challenges and opportunities. Golf course staffing can
include up to 50 employees in shop operations and golf course maintenance and
can bring in between $2 to $5 million in revenues.
Well known or
challenging golf courses can attract many guests to a resort. Golf courses can be
very difficult, picturesque, have lots of water hazards, and can be carved out
of a desert. Often they are the focal point of a resort and usually have a
trophy hole that is well known in golf and resort circles.
Your assignment is
to build an 18 hole golf course from the golf courses provided in this
assignment. They represent some of the best courses in Arizona, California and
Florida. You are to choose individual holes from these courses and develop your
own golf course. You should include the following in the project:
1.
Yardage
(distance) should be within the logical yardage for 18 holes
2.
You should have
a logical number of par 35,45, and 55.
3.
You should
justify your use of water holes or other difficult holes
4. Your
course should have a theme, examples are water, desert, mountain, target golf,
degree of difficulty.
5.
You should put
your course in a resort destination location
This project lends itself to power point presentations. You should plan
on using it for your class presentation.

To add a course picture to a Presentation or Word Document, follow these instructions (directions for use with Microsoft Office 2000 ö located in the computer labs).
1. Start a new document (PowerPoint Presentation or Word Document)
2. Open a web browser and go the Golf Course Design web page
a. http://www.hrm.nau.edu/temp/golf_courses/
3. Browse to one of the courses and select the small image of the hole that you want.Ê This will open the full size image of the hole.
a. As an example you could select PGA West, then Hole 17 which will open a full size picture of the hole.
4. Follow one of the instructions below
a. Select the full web address of the picture.Ê Right mouse click and select COPY to copy the address.
1. In our example we will copy the address http://www.hrm.nau.edu/temp/golf_courses/pga-west/index.html
2. Switch to you document and insert a picture (longer explanation follows)
1. Go to the menu bar and select Insert
2. Select the option picture
3. Select the option From File
4.
Under file name: paste the address of you picture.

b. Right mouse click on the picture and select COPY
1. Move to your document and select paste.
5. You should now have the picture of the hole in your document.
6. Repeat as needed.
