The place to take over?

" Julia realized, as she settled in to enjoy tea, that there was a big job ahead of her. Not only would she need to support Jason, but also she would need to help the family understand their rights. They obviously cared deeply about their son, they knew a great deal, but not about IDEA '97. She could certainly help them understand that process and get the family to participate in the IEP. That had all been an unfortunate series of miscommunications." . . . Points you may want to address?

  • Things the parents need to know
  • Ways to get Jason's a great IEP
  • Redoing an assessment that addresses the fact that Jason is bilingual
  • Ways Julia will pull the family and school together.

Rubric:for this assignment:

Excellent - The response will be at least a paragraph in length and will support a positive conclusion that addresses an educational resolution. It is likely to address the bilingual issue, may suggest reassessment, attention to parent rights and perspectives or an IEP for Jason. It will also include bringing the school up to speed on the family situation and may include the family perspective on the issues. Feel free to be creative.

Good - Brings the scenario to a conclusion in a logical manner.
