Write your own Story

There are many considerations in honoring different cultures. The following sites give ideas about being more aware of students' feelings. Of course, part of that honoring comes best when we understand ourselves and reclaim or examine our own roots.

Methods for Helping Students

Tolerance

Think of an appropriate method for tracing your own story. You may be interested in genealogy and making a chart of your ancestors, contacting your grandparents, searching archives in the city newspapers (called the morgue) where your family lived or sticking with your immediate family and learning more about family stories. Remember, if you are adopted, you can design your own family roots. To do this, find out the background of one of your heroes or heroines and adopt them as part of your family tree. After all, we all belong to the human family and that is the whole idea of this suggestion.

You do not need to report back on your own story unless you wish to share it. This is just a great opportunity to begin unraveling a fascinating story - yours! How will the instructor know you have been involved? Just email and share a little of your adventures.

Many of us are so close to our family we may not realize how special they are and how much them mean to us - human, flawed, or heroic - this is a critical piece of self. What pearls does your story hold? What pearls will you build for future generations out of the irritations of today?
