Web Activity 2:
Review laws that pertain to special education
Review the most obvious laws that address special education. It may come
as a surprise to you to find out that it was still legal in 1958 to sterilize
people, against their wishes, to prevent retardation or similar genetic
traits from being passed on. In the mid 1980's the US legislature was
debating the right of parents or a hospital staff to stop feeding a youngster
with Down syndrome, based on possible lack of intelligence and concern
about whether the child would have an adequate quality of life.
