Consider questions you may want to ask and list them prior to visiting.

Complete a review of a program after visiting in one of the programs for students or adults with special needs.

 

Sample Questions

1. What is the staff / client or student / teacher ratio?

2. Where does funding come from?

3. What special skills or kinds of certification are needed to be a teacher or care giver?

4. What oversight is there and how would advocates be treated if they had questions about the program?

5. What efforts are made to reach out to parents?

6. How is assessment conducted?

7. What kind of arrangements are made for transportation?

8. How is discipline carried out? Is punishment allowed?

9. Are safety standards in place for the facility? How often are they monitored?

10. Are students / clients treated like people or is there evidence of talking about them rather than to them, demeaning them rather than supporting and teaching them?
